Management
Where the diagnosis is clear the patient should be resuscitated with blood or fluids and where appropriate, should proceed to surgery.
If the diagnosis is in doubt the patient should be kept under close observation:
- the pulse rate, blood pressure and temperature should be recorded frequently
- the abdomen should be examined frequently
- strong analgesics, e.g. opiates, should not be given
