Complex acetabular fracture

Authoring team

Most acetabular fractures fall into this category and there is little merit in meticulous classification.

There are many fragments of bone comprising the roof, walls and floor of the acetabulum.

They all share the following characteristics:

  • severe trauma
  • disruption of the joint surface
  • require surgical reduction
  • the end result will be less than perfect
