Trauma to the pelvis is a serious problem with an overall mortality of 5%. Fractures themselves may be the cause of longterm disability but in addition one must also remember that pelvic fractures are often complicated by damage to;
- Bladder
- Urethra
- Bowel
- Blood vessels
- Nerves
Genitourinary damage can occur in up to 1 in 5 pelvic fractures.
