Possible complications include:

  • joint stiffness:
    • in adults especially, the elbow may be slow in regaining previous mobility
    • satisfactory function is usually achieved with the use of physiotherapy and the avoidance of forced manipulation

  • osteoarthritis may develop if the articular surfaces of the joint are affected
