Smell on breath þ cyanide(almonds), alcohol, solvents, ketones in alcohol withdrawal (also found in diabetic hyperglycaemia)
Mouth burns þ corrosive substances, paraquat, glue-sniffing
Needlemarks þ IV drug abuse
Hyperventilation þ salicylates
Haematemesis þ caustic agents, iron, salicylates, alcohol
