3,4-diaminopyridine
3,4-diaminopyridine is a drug that:
- increases acetycholine release from the nerve terminals
- blocks potassium conductance, prolonging the action potential at the nerve terminal, and increasing acetylcholine release
- side effects include:
- headache
- fatigue
- perioral and/or distal paraesthesia 30-60 minutes after a dose
- difficulty in sleeping
- excessive dosage can lead to seizures
- it is contraindicated in epilepsy
