Braxton-Hicks contractions
- these are non-painful uterine contractions that may occur from about 30 weeks gestation (although sometimes they may occur earlier than this)
- Braxton-Hicks contractions result in up to 15 mmHg pressure - this compares with contractions during labour where the pressure is about 60 mmHg
- Braxton-Hicks contractions are most common after 36 weeks gestation
