Treatment
Treatment
- a variety of techniques have been described for the treatment of digital mucoid cysts
- range from puncture, aspiration and drainage, unroofing with electrodessication, injection therapy with steroids or sclerosing alcohol, curettage and compression, multiple needling and drainage, and simple surgical excision
- recurrence rates vary according to the specific management of these lesions
- lower recurrence rates have been observed with complete surgical excision including deep tissue and bone with the addition of skin flaps for closure of the primary defect
- recurrences as high as 50% have also been documented for treatment using puncture and drainage
- surgical intervention, which incorporates osseous and soft tissue resection, has shown a recurrence rate as low as 20%
