Gastric tumours
Benign tumours are reported in 5-25% of autopsies but are very uncommon clinical problems. Types:
- epithelial
- adenoma:
- single - polyp
- multiple - gastric polyposis
- leiomyoma
- adenoma:
connective tissue:
þþ fibroma
- neurofibroma
- vascular
- haemangioma
Malignant:
- primary - the most common gastric neoplasm:
- adenocarcinoma - 95%
- lymphoma }
- leiomyosarcoma } 5%
- carcinoid }
- secondary - uncommon. Sources include:
- as part of a generalised lymphomatosis or leukaemia
- less commonly, spread from a breast carcinoma or malignant melanoma
- spread from adjacent intestinal organs e.g. pancreas.
