The 1858 Act gave the GMC the power to: - ask the Licensing Bodies for full information on their courses of study and examinations - send visitors to observe and report upon examinations - make representations to the Privy Council to de-recognise primary medical qualifications if the Council came to regard the foundations of the qualification of a Licensing Body as insufficient.
