Hepatic adenoma

Liver cell adenoma is an uncommon benign liver tumour which is associated with the use of oral contraceptive pills with a high oestrogen content. As the dose of oestrogens in the OCP has reduce so has the incidence of liver cell adenoma.

The presenting complaint is usually pain, from:

  • expansion of the liver capsule
  • haemorrhage into the tumour
  • infarction The patient may also have a sense of fullness in the abdomen.
