Pregnancy (contraindications to GP unit delivery)
Contraindications to delivery in a GP unit include:
- previous caesarian section
- prevous retained placenta
- intra-uterine growth retardation
- diabetes or other major maternal illness
- multiple pregnancy
- pelvic injury
- previous gynaecological operations such as hysterotomy, myomectomy, cone biopsy
Relative contraindications include:
- history of recurrent miscarriages
- infertility treatment
- young primagravida (less than 18 years old) should be considered for consultant unit booking - these women are at an increased risk of conditions such as dysfunctional labour and for requirement of epidural analgesia
- small multigravida (less than 150 cm tall)
- fifth or more baby
- multigravida over 40 years of age
