Urethrotomy

Urethrotomy corrects urethral stricture by making incisions through the stricture into the corpus spongiosum. Modern techniques are performed under direct vision using a rigid endoscope with a knife attachment. Incisions are usually made at the 4 'o' clock and 8 'o' clock positions. This preserves the dorsal roof for future urethroplasty should this become necessary. Success rates are similar to those for urethral dilatation i.e. 50-60%.
