Blunt trauma to the eye is often caused during recreation; the two typical examples are of a squash ball and a champagne cork.

Possible types of lesions of the eye include:

  • black eye
  • subconjunctival haemorrhage
  • corneal abrasion
  • iris - hypaema
  • lens dislocations
  • retinal injury
  • optic nerve injury
