Infantile hemiplegia is a condition that may be noted at birth or develop in the first six months of life - there is often an abrupt onset. It probably is caused by a cerebrovascular accident in utero or in the perinatal period. It occurs more often in boys than girls, and affects the right side of the body twice as often as the left.
