Neck pain

Authoring team

This is a common complaint, particularly in primary health care, with upto half the population experiencing neck pain at some time.

A full history and examination is necessary to fully assess what is often a poorly localised, vague symptom.

Attempts should be made to distinguish between causes of pain arisng from mechanical disorders, systemic disease or due to other less well defined syndromes of neck pain.
