  • 98 - 99% of peptic ulcers occur in the duodenal bulb or the stomach (usually, the antrum)
    • duodenal sites are four times as common as gastric sites
    • 10 - 20% of patients with a gastric ulcer have a concomitant duodenal ulcer.

Less common sites for peptic ulceration include:

  • oesophagus - Barrett's oesophagus
  • stomach, duodenum and jejunum - Zollinger Ellison syndrome
  • Meckel's diverticulum
  • gastroenterostomy stoma
