There are several options here:

  • pudendal block (low forceps, suturing), requires 15 minutes to work
  • paracervical block - rarely used due to problems involving injection of the fetus
  • extradural block:
    • caudal - problems with sterility, patchy and large amounts of local anaesthetic needed
    • epidural
  • spinal analgesia
