Renal manifestations of PAN

The kidneys are involved in PAN in 65-80% of cases:

  • renal biopsy reveals arteritis
  • arteriography often reveals microaneurysms

The arteritis results in:

  • renal ischaemia and infarction
  • systemic hypertension
  • renal failure

Renal involvement is an indicator of poor prognosis.
