The clinical features of acute promyelocytic leukaemia include:

  • malaise

  • shortness of breath

  • spontaneous bruising:
    • APL presents in 90% as a bleeding diathesis which is due to the release of fibrinolytic enzymes and proteases by the immature promyelocytes
