The Parkland Formula is one means of estimating the volume of fluid to be administered to make up losses in major burns. Its calculation is detailed in the submenu. An alternative is the Muir and Barclay Formula. Both have to be placed in the context of overall fluid balance allowing for maintenance and ongoing losses, and accepting that it is only an estimate. Resuscitation fluid volume is modulated according to frequent clinical assessment.
