The main sites of glycogen synthesis are in the liver and muscle. Glycogen storage diseases result in:

  • an abnormal structured glycogen, or
  • an increased concentration of glycogen

They are all autosomal recessive in inheritance, and all, except McArdle's, present in infancy.
