The features of cylindroma include:

  • islands of epithelial cells:
    • small cells at periphery in surrounding layer
    • larger cells with light-staining nuclei at centre
    • occasional irregular ductal cells
  • a surrounding layer of amorphous hyaline ground substance:
    • thought to be derived from the basal lamina
    • may be taken up into some of the epithelial cells
