This condition may present as a gastroenterological emergency with upper gastrointestinal bleeding. It is a form of gastritis that is characterized by haemorrhage and erosions. In fact the aetiology of this form of gastritis will be identical to forms of chronic gastritis, e.g. non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug usage.
