diffusing capacity (increased)
Increased transfer factor occurs in conditions where there is increased exposure of alveolar contents to blood. Thus, the classic example is early in pulmonary haemorrhage, where it is a useful pulmonary function test.
Other situations include
- left-to-right intracardiac shunts
- early left heart failure
- convalescent asthma - in contrast to acute asthma where it is decreased
