Cautions:

  • renal and hepatic impairment
  • pregnancy and breast-feeding

Side-effects:

  • altered bowel habit
  • dizziness, rash, tiredness, headache
  • reversible confusional states
  • reversible liver damage
  • rarely, blood disorders (including thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, and aplastic anaemia),
  • muscle or joint pain
  • hypersensitivity
  • bradycardia and AV block
  • interstitial nephritis and acute pancreatitis reported
  • gynaecomastia (usually only in high dosage)
  • reversible impotence has also been reported
