The BSG risk score depends on:

  • age
  • degree of shock
  • co-morbidity
  • underlying gastrointestinal diagnosis
  • stigmata of recent haemorrhage

The probability of a rebleed and the expected mortality rate may be calculated according to the BSG risk assessment.
