The symptoms of acute pericarditis are accompanied by:

  • chronic low-grade fever
  • malaise
  • weight loss

Definitive diagnosis requires pericardial aspiration. The pericardial effusion is usually serous but may be bloody.

Management is by standard anti-tuberculous chemotherapy.
