Factors which relieve or precipitate abdominal pain often give a strong clue as to the cause of the pain, and include:

  • food, which can relieve or precipitate pain
  • defaecation
  • micturition
  • sitting forward
  • applying a warm / hot water bottle - eases musculoskeletal pain
