  • common causes:
    • aneurysm
    • diabetes
    • multiple sclerosis
    • tumour
    • trauma and surgery
    • stroke

  • rarer causes:
    • vasculitides:
      • microscopic polyangitis
      • rheumatoid vasculitis
      • polyarteritis nodosa
    • sarcoidosis
  • infection:
      • Lyme disease
      • syphilis
      • HIV
    • Wernicke's encephalopathy
