Fluvoxamine is a non-sedating highly specific antidepressant which inhibits the re-uptake of serotonin.

Fluvoxamine, like fluoxetine, is less cardiotoxic than tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline and imipramine.

The dose of fluvoxamine is 50 mg twice daily, increasing to 100 mg twice daily after 10 days; the maximum recommended dose is 300 mg daily.

Side effects include nausea, constipation, agitation and weight loss.

Because of the agitation, doses are given in the mornings so as not to disturb sleep

There is controversy about an increased risk of suicide.
