Kaposi's sarcoma is seen more frequently in:

  • individuals with AIDS:
    • largely restricted to homosexual and bisexual groups
    • rare in patients who acquired HIV intravenously
  • individuals with immunosuppression for reasons other than HIV infection
  • elderly males of Jewish or Mediterranean origin - classical form
  • in African populations the disease may be manifested as either the classical, locally aggressive or lymphadenopathic forms
