The clinical manifestation of non-typhoid Salmonella infection is varied. Its most common manifestation is of acute enterocolitis, although invasive salmonellosis may occur.
Some patients may also develop a non-invasive sterile reactive arthritis in the second or third week of illness.
Following recovery a carrier state may develop, though this is rare, occurring in less than 1% of individuals.
