Vital considerations when using drugs in cardiac resuscitation include:

  • administration:
    • rate
    • repeat doses
    • onset
    • flushing with a bolus of normal saline

  • pharmacokinetics:
    • elimination
    • distribution - volume of distribution

  • endotracheal administration:
    • some drugs are contraindicated
    • the drug should be diluted to 10ml
    • American recommendations are for doubling the drug dose; not a recommendation in the UK
