Two techniques are available:

  • chondrodiatasis
  • callotasis

In the correction of short stature, lengthening may be of the ipsilateral femur and tibia with an incremental shoe raise on the other leg, or of the contralateral femur and tibia, or by bilateral simultaneous femur or tibia lengthening. In extreme short stature, there may be simultaneous lengthening at two sites within one bone - bifocal lengthening - as this halves the time required.
