The common causes of obstructive anuria are:

  • calculi in a solitary kidney or bilaterally
  • bladder cancer invading both ureteric orifices
  • obstruction of both ureters by an abdominal or pelvic mass e.g. ovarian tumour
  • bilateral blockage of ureters by crystal deposition e.g. uric acid or sulphonamide
  • prostatic hypertrophy or cancer
  • retroperitoneal fibrosis involving both ureters
  • renal obstructive disorders, like pelviureteric juction obstruction
