Complications can be divided into maternal and fetal:- Maternal:

  • prolonged labour
  • premature labour
  • increased risk of traumatic damage
  • increased risk of shoulder dystocia Fetal:
  • foetal distress and birth asphyxia
  • brachial plexus injuries
  • cephalhaematoma, resulting in more pronounced neonatal jaundice
