Modify questioning according to the nature of disease which is suspected, time available, and circumstances. If during the functional enquiry, a positive answer to one or more of the questions is obtained, full details including duration must be elicited, and recorded under the appropriate section (eg History of Presenting Complaint or Past Medical History).
