cutaneous manifestations of diabetes

There are a wide array of possible cutaneous manifestations of diabetic disease.

These include:

  • necrobiosis lipoidica
  • granuloma annulare
  • predisposition to infection - candidiasis, staphylococcal
  • diabetic dermopathy - pigmented scars over shins
  • vitiligo
  • pruritus
  • eruptive xanthomas
  • neuropathic ulcers
  • atherosclerosis
  • tight waxy skin on fingers
  • ulcers due to neuropathy or ischaemia
  • fat atrophy or hypertrophy at insulin injection sites
