Knuckle pads is the lay term for a discrete hyperkeratosis of the dorsal aspect of interphalangeal joints in the hands. The area is fibrosed and thickened.

The condition is occasionally familial but more commonly it is caused by trauma. There have been reports of an association with Dupytren's contracture.

Differential diagnoses include:

  • warts
  • occupational callosities
  • granuloma annulare

All forms of treatment have met with little success.
