Features of growth hormone deficiency include:-

  • normal birth weight and length
  • hypoglycaemia in infancy, with or without prolonged hyperbilirubinaemia
  • reduced growth velocity apparent from six to twelve months
  • frontal bossing and poor nasal bridge development
  • delayed closure of the anterior fontanelle
  • obesity and micropenis
  • thin hair, poor nail growth
  • proportionate dwarfism, which is due to epiphyseal growth plate retardation - Laron type
  • delayed skeletal maturation, which is associated with adiposity and hypogonadism - Frohlich's adiposogenital syndrome
