Mothers who abuse drugs during pregnancy put themselves and the child at risk in a number of ways. Firstly, compliance with antenatal care is poor. Secondly, the mother suffers more of the complications of pregnancy. Thirdly, the child is more likely to suffer complications, before and after delivery.
