Lichen planus (nail)

Can be seen in 10% of patients with lichen planus. Changes are more prominent on the fingernails than in toenails (1).

Lichen planus may occur on the nail forming a pterygium from the cuticle. There may be longitudinal ridging of the nail and on occasion, permanent total nail loss may occur.
