Finally, the following checks should be made:

  • palpate peripheral pulses and check for bruits in the carotid and femoral arteries

  • peripheral oedma

  • peripheral vascular disease, both venous and arterial

  • tendon xanthomata

  • stigmata of infective endocarditis

  • fundoscopy for:
    • Roth's spots
    • hypertensive retinopathy

  • urinanalysis for the haematuria of endocarditis

  • take the temperature
