A grade II fracture occurs along the epiphyseal plate but branches into the shaft. The detached fragment of bone consists of the epiphysis plus a triangular fragment of the shaft.

A Salter-Harris II fracture:

  • is the most common type of epiphyseal injury
  • occurs in older children
  • seldom results in abnormal growth
