Asteatotic eczema is a disease of the elderly characterized by dry cracked skin due to loss of epidermal lubrication. It occurs primarily on the legs, especially the shins; less commonly, on the trunk and arms. The skin assumes a 'crazy paving' appearance with large scales demarcated by fine red superficial fissures. Purpura and capillary bleeding may result.
