Cautions and contraindications

Cautions include:

  • predisposition to lowered seizure threshold/ increased risk of seizures (including brain tumour, previous head injury, other medications, diabetes, alcohol abuse)
  • renal or mild-moderate hepatic impairment
  • psychotic episodes
  • elderly

Contraindications include:

  • hypersensitivity
  • previous/current seizure or eating disorder
  • recent/current MAOIs (including selegiline)
  • severe hepatic cirrhosis
  • bipolar disorder
  • pregnancy and lactation - not recommended
