    • for culture to detect bacteria and fungi
    • for histology to detect malignancy and vasculitis

  • gastrointestinal imaging in selected patients:
    • barium meal and enema

  • blood tests to detect:
    • paraproteinaemia
    • antiphospholipid antibody
    • antinuclear antibody
    • ANCA

  • full blood count and blood smear
  • bone marrow examination in selected patients
