Possible clinical features include:

  • dilated subcutaneous veins over the upper limbs, neck and chest
  • if there is collateral inferior vena cava circulation then there may be dilatation of the subcutaneous veins of the abdomen
  • tissue oedema
  • SVCO may be of rapid, often thrombotic, onset or gradual onset
  • there may be development of stridor due to progressive obstruction to the main bronchi or trachea
