The symptoms of retrocaecal appendicitis include:

  • pain:
    • generally not as severe as with a normally-sited appendix
    • in the early stages, not well-localised in site but may progress to right flank or costovertebral angle
    • often tolerated for longer periods than a normally-sited appendix
  • anorexia
  • nausea
  • fever
